Liposuction
Correct deep excess fat
Liposuction or liposuction aims to correct deep excess fat, allowing you to regain a harmonious silhouette. Liposuction helps to harmonize the volumes and shapes of the body by removing fat where it tends to accumulate. It is effective on the arms, hips, abdomen, saddlebags, thighs and knees, calves, ankles, double chin, neck and oval of the face.
Explanation
harmonize the volumes and shapes of the body by removing fat where it tends to accumulate.
Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures because it is the only way to harmonize the silhouette and eliminate fat that is resistant to diets and sports, especially fat of hereditary origin from saddlebags.
Beyond the simple suction of excess fat, liposuction is sometimes associated with the remodeling of the silhouette by lipofilling (injection of autologous fat) which allows at the same time of operation to restore volume to other parts of the body such as the buttocks or breasts. This method now well mastered in cosmetic surgery is called lipostructure. The reinjected fat is perfectly tolerated by patients because it is their own fat. Thus, the liposuction intervention is no longer limited to refining a silhouette but also to reshaping it.
Liposuction is a fairly old technique that has evolved considerably over time thanks to the improvement of instruments and the finesse of the work. Practiced by many plastic surgeons, it nevertheless requires demanding know-how. Because beyond the act of suctioning the fat, it is above all taking into account the direction of retraction of the skin that will allow you to obtain beautiful results with a real regular lifting effect. The principle of the procedure consists of inserting a cannula under the skin to suck out the fat. This action creates micro tunnels in the fatty layer, the correct orientation of which is essential to obtain regular contours.
It should be noted that liposuction is indicated to remove localized fatty deposits and therefore cannot be used as a technique for weight loss in overweight people. On the other hand, it can be associated with a diet approach. In this case, it is called “starter” liposuction because it is performed as an alternative to a diet that allows the patient to regain motivation and confidence in her weight loss approach after improving her figure and fatty deposits that can only be eliminated by surgery.
The Insight
The MOST Common PROCEDURES Concerns
01.
Main indications
Liposuction is very effective on the hips, saddlebags and stomach but also on the arms, thighs and knees. The neck and double chin can also be treated with this technique. Liposuction is suitable for both women and men. Liposuction can also reduce cellulite in many cases (without eliminating it completely).
Liposuction is sometimes combined with other procedures during the same operation: abdominoplasty when there is significant sagging of the abdominal skin, breast, arm or thigh lifts and lipostructure remodeling. Liposuction is an integral part of arm and thigh lift procedures, for example.

The Consultation
The first consultation for liposuction allows me to know your wishes and expectations. Do not hesitate to speak freely and ask all the necessary questions. I will ask you about any medical history, including any circulatory disorders that may be contraindications to the procedure. We will also decide on the type of anesthesia to be used depending on the case.
An examination allows us to identify the areas to be treated and the technique to be used. I will explain the procedure to you in detail and give you an information sheet and a quote specific to the procedure. Photos of surgical cases are reviewed according to your wishes. A minimum period of 15 days for reflection is required before deciding on an intervention.
03.
Before Surgery
As with any cosmetic surgery, a blood test is performed in the event of general anesthesia. You will also consult the anesthesiologist at least 48 hours before the procedure.
Some important recommendations are to be followed such as stopping smoking at least one month before the procedure so that it does not hinder good healing. Similarly, aspirin and anti-inflammatories are prohibited about ten days before the procedure.
04.
Liposuction surgery
The procedure lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes depending on the areas treated. Most often, hospitalization is outpatient, sometimes with one night if the procedure was major. The type of anesthesia (deep local or most often general) is decided according to your preferences and my recommendations depending on the cases and the importance of the areas treated.
The actual procedure involves making very fine incisions to insert the suction cannula. The suction is performed at the same time as the injection of physiological serum and a local anesthetic to facilitate the procedure. The cannulas are extremely fine for non-traumatic and regular suction. The procedure involves making micro-tunnels in an orientation that will allow good tissue retraction. The quality of this surgical procedure is essential to obtain a good, regular result.
At the end of the procedure, the incisions are sutured with absorbable threads.
05.
After surgery
Immediately after the procedure, it is necessary to wear a panty to properly support the treated area and keep it for a month. You can walk after the procedure, although post-operative pain may be felt. This will be treated with painkillers. Generally, following liposuction, bruising and swelling appear, causing discomfort when walking and changing position. This discomfort lasts three to four days, allowing a fairly rapid return to work. Professional unavailability of 2 to 3 days should be expected.
Showering is possible the day after the procedure. During the following days, showering will help clean the scars with an antiseptic. Avoid standing for long periods of time in the days following the procedure.
The result is visible four to six weeks after the procedure, but additional treatment with lymphatic drainage and massage will accelerate the resorption of edema, improve the circulatory state and stimulate the harmonious retraction of the skin in the weeks following liposuction.
Post-operative consultations are check-ups carried out at my office one week after the operation and then at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and one year. Resuming sports activities is possible 1 to 2 months after the procedure. Walking regularly is recommended to promote good blood circulation.
The Results
effectively and definitively corrects localized excess fat
Liposuction therefore effectively and definitively corrects localized excess fat with minimal scarring and the result is clear after eight weeks. If the skin elasticity is good, the skin retracts for an optimal result. The result is long-lasting because the fat is permanently eliminated.
In case of cellulite, to improve the orange peel effect after the procedure, a good combination is: liposuction then skin resurfacing with CelluM6, or palpate-roll which will significantly reduce cellulite.
Cost of Liposuction
The cost of liposuction will vary depending on the type of procedure to be performed and the areas to be treated. Only functional discomfort may possibly result in liposuction being covered by social security.
Possible complications
Like any surgical procedure, liposuction surgery can have complications but they are very rare. Very exceptionally, we can note:
- Thromboembolic accidents
- Bleeding
- Hematomas and lymphatic effusions
- Alterations in sensitivity but which are never definitive
