Focused Ultrasound for Face Lifting and Body Slimming
The office of Doctor Laurent Dumas is equipped with a latest generation HIFU focused ultrasound device, the DUAL HIFU device. The HIFU technique is based on focused ultrasound that is delivered very precisely into the dermis. The action of focused ultrasound allows the skin to be tightened and therefore the treatment of sagging skin.
Explanation
HIFU: Focused Ultrasound for Face Lifting and Body Slimming
Over time, the skin loses its elasticity and tone, it becomes thinner and more fragile. Focused ultrasound combats this phenomenon by heating the tissues, which restarts a process of collagen production (neocollagenesis) and elastin fibers in the dermis, allowing the skin to regain a new youthfulness. The skin is tightened, wrinkles fade, the lifting effect is real.
For the face, HIFU was designed to act on the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS), which is located under the outer barrier of the skin. It is a set of small muscles, fibrous tissues and fat, which outline and animate the face and neck. The SMAS allows facial expressions to appear but it sags with age, causing wrinkles and furrows to appear due to the loss of skin elasticity and tissue ptosis.
Just like surgical lifting, focused ultrasound will act to re-tighten the entire SMAS in depth.HIFU can treat the face but also the body, where it also acts on localized fat deposits. When the ultrasound reaches the fatty tissues, it destroys the adipocytes (fat cells), which are then naturally eliminated by the body.
The treatment therefore allows a reshaping of the silhouette by combining slimming and skin tightening.

How HIFU works
The use of ultrasound in the medical field has existed for a long time, particularly for performing ultrasound scans. But in aesthetics, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is a new technology used to combat sagging skin. Using different adapted parts, the device delivers ultrasound by converging it through the skin, to restart its collagen production and destroy fat deposits. This process allows great flexibility and precision of use to reach different depths depending on the settings in order to optimize the thermal effect obtained under the epidermis.
The HIFU is controlled by a control panel to select the appropriate settings according to the indications: facial treatment, slimming or firming. Different handpieces (called transducers) are connected to the ultrasound generator. Depending on each case, Doctor Dumas selects the necessary tip in relation to the desired treatment depth (from 1.5 to 16 mm depending on whether the body or the face is being treated).
The latest generation HIFU technology allows to reach deep tissues. It is recommended for people with moderate skin sagging. However, it cannot replace a facelift when tissue ptosis is clearly marked.

How does a HIFU ultrasound session take place?
The HIFU session is performed at the office of Doctor Laurent Dumas. It lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes and does not cause social exclusion. Doctor Dumas applies a little ultrasound gel to the areas to be treated to facilitate conduction, then passes the handpieces over the areas to be treated. Depending on the type of treatment, the specific handpiece at the required depth is used. Several passes are made over the skin. The patient may feel a little discomfort (tingling, warming).
After the session, the results are not immediate because it takes a little time for the skin to restart the production of collagen which will generate the lifting effect. This appears after 2 weeks for a definitive result after 3 months.
The effectiveness of the treatment is visible from the first session. Several sessions may be necessary in the event of severe indications.

The advantages of HIFU
Focused ultrasound is non-invasive. It delivers very precise energy to different levels of the middle and deep layers of the skin, with the aim of generating collagen renewal through localized heating. The neocollagenesis process allows the skin to be re-tightened and the deep action targets fatty masses.
HIFU and Radiofrequency should not be confused even if these two techniques tend towards the same result: skin tightening. Radiofrequency, which uses an electric current to heat the skin, only acts on the surface while focused ultrasound penetrates deeper into the dermis, thus acting more effectively.
This treatment does not impose any contraindications related to sun exposure, it can be carried out all year round unlike lasers.
HIFU is effective from the first session and can be used on all skin types. The benefit of the treatment is long-lasting, over a period of approximately two years.
Indications
For the face :
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Sagging skin (loss of facial contours, jowls)
- Treatment of neck aging
- Double chin reduction
- Skin rejuvenation
- Improving skin texture
- The face lifting effect (brow line or jaw line)
- Drooping eyelids
For the body :
- Facelift by tightening the skin (stomach, knees, inner thighs, arms, breasts, buttocks, etc.)
- Treatment of localized fatty deposits that aggravate sagging skin (love handles, stomach, arms, buttocks, thighs, etc.)
The technique is ideal when the fat fold exceeds 1.5 cm on the stomach, arms or inner thighs. Results are obtained from the first session. The ideal treatment is to carry out 2 sessions.
Results
Results and follow-up of treatment
A HIFU ultrasound session leaves no marks on the skin apart from some temporary redness. After about two weeks, the patient observes the results of the treatment which acts both in depth (remodelling, reduction of fatty deposits and cellulite) and on the surface: tightening, lifting effect.
Focused ultrasound treatment is contraindicated in pregnant women and in cases of skin infection or inflammatory disease.
HIFU in practice
- Non-surgical lifting effect on all areas of the face and body.
- Result obtained from the first session with ideally a second session to optimize it.
- Ideal for moderate relaxation inaccessible to injections.
- Non-delegable treatment carried out by Doctor Dumas.
- Price: between €600 and €1200 depending on the size of the area to be treated (number of shots), the shot costs €1.50.
