Face Lifting
Face Lifting or rhytidectomy
A surgery that allows natural rejuvenation, avoiding excessive stretching of the skin and the frozen appearance of ancient techniques.
Explanation
It involves repositioning the deep structures of the face that have become relaxed and sagging over time. The objective is to obtain a natural result, with a rapid recovery time.
The face lift does not modify the expression of the face but rejuvenates it considerably because it acts on the main visible signs of aging: wrinkles but also sagging of tissues, loss of volume and loss of outline of the lower face. .
The facelift therefore offers a wide range of surgical procedures which will be applied to the face and neck. We distinguish in particular:
The brow lift for the entire eyebrows and forehead.
The temporal lift for the external part of the eyebrow, the upper eyelid and the crow’s feet.
The malar lift for the cheekbones and the malar bags which correspond to the swellings located under the fatty bags of the lower eyelid.
The cheek lift for the cheeks and jowls.
Cervical lift to redefine the cervico-facial angle by correcting the sagging of the neck skin and possibly the double chin.
Depending on your needs and wishes, I combine these different actions to personalize your intervention. The result remains very natural.
The cervico-facial lift includes malar, jugal and cervical lifts. It thus corrects the sagging of the entire cheek and neck. It is the most commonly requested, it and allows to restore, in particular to the oval of the face, the appearance which was its a few years previously.
Facelifts can be combined with a blepharoplasty procedure (eyelid surgery) and lipomodeling if it is necessary to restore volume to the face or, on the contrary, treat excess fat by mini liposuction, such as a double chin.
The Insight
The MOST Common PROCEDURES Concerns
01.
Main facelift indications
The face lift is aimed at people bothered by the loss of the oval of their face, the appearance of jowls, the sagging of their neck which becomes “wrinkled”. On the other hand, it is not effective on small skin imperfections (fine lines, roughness, scars, spots, etc.), as well as on wrinkles around the lips which will be treated by aesthetic medicine.
There is no “facelift age”, it is justified from the moment when the sagging is real and causes aesthetic discomfort motivating the intervention, particularly when aesthetic medicine procedures can no longer prevent these signs of aging.

Consultation for a facelift
Very often, each patient arrives with a request for correction relating to a particular defect that particularly bothers them. The operation will aim to correct this defect as a priority while evaluating whether it may be appropriate to correct other associated defects in order to obtain a well-balanced, natural result that meets expectations.
During the first consultation, it is therefore essential that you freely express what bothers you and what you expect to improve. Don’t be afraid to share all your questions, fears and expectations.
After an examination, I will be able to offer you one or more suitable solutions and I will present you with photos of before/after surgical cases similar to yours.
I will also give you an information sheet and a detailed quote. You then have a legal deadline of at least 15 days to respect before deciding on your intervention.
03.
The cervico-facial lifting technique
The incisions are made around the ear, starting under the implantation of the side of the hair which hides it then along the curves of the contour of the relief of the ear to finish behind the ear. This way the incisions are perfectly camouflaged.
It is from these incisions that the peeling of the skin allows access to the anatomical structures that we wish to remodel: the muscles and muscular aponeuroses (SMAS) are repositioned, tightened and fixed in the right position, any excess fat are corrected by micro-lipoaspiration, then the skin is redraped without tension on these remodeled deep structures. The excess skin is removed following the path of the incisions, sewn up with intradermal sutures placed in the thickness of the skin which are therefore invisible, with absorbable threads. A bandage is placed on the head for 24 hours.
The surgical procedure which makes a cervico-facial lift successful is that the repositioning of the tissues is ensured by the re-tensioning of the deep tissues and not by the tension on the skin which would give a frozen appearance and a very temporary result.
04.
Before the facelift procedure
In the event of general anesthesia, a blood test is carried out and consultation with the anesthesiologist is mandatory at least 48 hours before the procedure. It is necessary to remain strictly fasting 6 hours before the procedure.
Taking medications containing aspirin or anti-inflammatories is prohibited in the 10 days preceding the procedure.
Tobacco consumption must be stopped or greatly reduced for one month before and after the intervention. Indeed, tobacco can cause healing problems.
05.
Facelift surgery
It lasts approximately 2 hours. It is performed under local, deep local (neuroleptanalgesia) or general anesthesia depending on your preferences depending on the case.
Hospitalization is most often limited to the night following the operation. Same-day discharge is also possible after a few hours of monitoring following the procedure. Discharge the next day allows a return home without dressing.
06.
After the facelift procedure
The patient may feel a sensation of painful tension which will be calmed with analgesics.
Swelling (edema) and bruising (ecchymosis) of the cervico-facial region are usually very moderate and disappear almost completely after about ten days. Scars should be cleaned daily with an antiseptic.
It is necessary to plan for socio-professional unavailability of 8 days in the majority of cases.
Post-operative visits are made every 3 days after the operation, then at 15 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year.
Direct exposure to the sun is prohibited for a month and a half. It is then possible with a sunscreen with a maximum protection index.
The bruises can be hidden by a covering cream the day after the operation and your usual makeup can be applied over the covering cream.
The Results
Results of a Cervicofacelift
The result is a refreshed, rejuvenated, expressive and natural face. The oval of the face and the neck are redrawn, sagging tissues are corrected. Those around you notice a change and an improvement but without being able to identify a surgical intervention.
The improvement is seen immediately despite any swelling and bruising. The final results can be seen after around ten days, even if complete stabilization requires 1 to 3 months.
In the long term, tissue sagging is corrected in a lasting manner; the majority of patients do not need reoperation.
Risks and complications
Apart from the usual risks inherent to any surgical procedure, we can note:
- Healing difficulties.
- Hematoma.
- Infection (very rare, it is treated with antibiotics).
Cost of a facelift
The cost of the intervention will depend on the procedure to be performed, the duration of the intervention, the type of anesthesia and any hospitalization costs.
If the reason is purely aesthetic, it does not give rise to reimbursement by Social Security.
